About Thee Space Poetry Prize

While many are working to radically transform the literary prize complex, we must also intentionally devote time & resources to our own communities & find ways to platform each other. With that, Dovesong and Shade Literary Arts presents: THEE SPACE, a poetry prize for Trans/GNC writers of color, judged by Xandria Phillips.

Guidelines for submitting to Thee Space are the exact same as our general submissions for the 2021 Fall/Winter Issue.

Please note: If you are submitting to the poetry prize, please use the same submission link as our general submissions. Within the application, we will ask if you're submitting to the poetry prize. By choosing "Yes, I am submitting to Thee Space," you will automatically be considered.

Xandria Phillips is a Whiting Award-winning poet, and visual artist from rural Ohio. The recipient of a LAMBDA Literary Award, and the Judith A. Markowitz Award for Emerging writers, Xandria is the author of HULL (Nightboat Books 2019) and Reasons for Smoking, which won the 2016 Seattle Review Chapbook Contest judged by Claudia Rankine. They have received fellowships from Brown University, Callaloo, Cave Canem, The Conversation Literary Festival, Oberlin College, the Wisconsin Institute for Creative Writing, and are the 2021-2023 poetry fellow at the Center for African American Poetry and Poetics. Xandria’s poetry has appeared in Berlin Quarterly Review, BOMB Magazine, Crazyhorse, Poets.org, and Virginia Quarterly Review.
