Submission Guidelines
2025 submissions are currently close.

Submissions for our 2026 cycle will open in February.
​
Here are the submission guidelines in the meantime:

The Shade Journal now publishes poems every first and third Thursday of the month beginning March 2026.
​
The open reading cycle ends October 31.​
​
Submit 3-5 unpublished poems of any length in a single file to info@shadeliteraryarts.org. Use "2025 Shade Submission" as the subject. Any submissions sent outside the reading period will not be opened.
"Unpublished" is considered never appearing online (including all blogs; not including in video format). Simultaneous submissions are accepted. Please notify us immediately if one or more of these poems has been accepted elsewhere. ​​​

Please do not send multiple submissions during the reading period. Multiple submissions will not be opened and discarded.
​
You will receive a response within a month of your submission.
​
We offer $20 per acceptance.
​
Your work will be considered by Luther Hughes.
